Concerts

The Sir Jack Lyons Concert Hall is our much loved 350 seat concert hall which sits at the heart of the Department of Music. Funded by a philanthropic donation by Jack Lyons in 1969, the Hall features a full lighting rig and recording capabilities for concerts and recitals. It’s also home to our full-sized organ and two Steinway grand pianos. As well as being the setting for the weekly York Concerts series, the Hall has seen performances by professional visiting artists, alongside concerts by University ensembles, orchestras, choirs, and many of you!

The student-run Music Society hosts free lunchtime concerts in the Hall on Tuesdays and Fridays at 1pm and alumni are welcome to attend. Pop back for a visit anytime.

Alumni receive a discount to York Concerts events, just mention your graduate status when booking via telephone. Call +44 1904 322439.

Crowdfunded projects

Alumni donations have funded over 45 film, media and arts projects through YuStart, the University crowdfunding website. This support has allowed the groups and individual students to achieve over £76,000 support for degree and research projects since it launched in 2014.

Archbishops’ Registers revealed

The University of York has launched a website that gives the public access to one of the most important collections of historical materials surviving in England today. The Archbishops’ Registers Revealed project was made possible by alumni gifts, and funding from the Andrew W Mellon Foundation and the Marc Fitch Fund.
