When we’re wrinkly and old these memories will stay with us like a warm York security blanket. Charlotte Wainwright highlights the 13 things Uni of York graduates will always remember.
1) Campus Geese
Constantly having to walk ten minutes out of your way to lectures to avoid the infinite amount of campus geese. These terrifying creatures will forever spark fear in any York graduate.
Prawn crackers and cheesy disco music. You wouldn’t be a York student if you hadn’t lost your dignity in there are least once.
3) Concrete Campus
The grey concrete buildings make winter look even more dreary. What were they thinking in the 60s?
4) The Mystery of Heslington Hall
On every campus brochure, yet rarely entered by students. Heslington Hall will always remain a beautiful enigma.
5) College Spirit
Becoming instantly best friends with anyone in your college, since it is undoubtedly the best one. Not to mention being constantly prepared to burst into your college chant, at a moment’s notice.
6) The Beautiful City
Going to university in one of the most historic, beautiful cities, means always having something to do. Students are often found chanting spells in the Shambles, the real-life Diagon Alley.
7) York’s Pubs
With a pub for pretty much every day of the year, York students are never without options for an after-lecture drink.
8) Heslington East Climate
A surprisingly long distance from Heslington West, the Heslington East campus seems to belong to a different climate. Windy is an understatement.
9) Nouse v. Vision
The ultimate media battle. Pick your side.
Having to disown any friends you may have once had at Lancaster. Where did all the sports fanatics come from?
11) York’s Takeaways
From Efes to Vikings, Salt & Pepper to Oki’s, York students have an endless supply of takeaways. After Willow kebab anyone?
The best sandwich shop. Period.
13) Clifford’s Tower
Rolling down Clifford’s Tower is on every student’s bucket list. A staple university experience.
